[News] High F/X Rate a Boon for Korean Singers

Posted in News with tags , , on March 7, 2009 by kenkyu

The soaring won-dollar exchange rate has prompted Korean singers to look overseas for more lucrative deals. Rain, TVXQ, Jewelry, Shin Seung-hoon and other famed Korean pop singers have upped the number of their engagements overseas. The weakening Korean won against the U.S. dollar and Japanese yen means more earnings for K-pop singers on foreign stages. Their representatives are reportedly very busy planning concerts, fan meetings, and other events in foreign locations.

For instance, Rain held fan meetings in Tokyo and Osaka on January 12th and 14th. He drew more than 3,000 fans at each of four meetings, once again demonstrating the power of his stardom. He’s now planning an Asian tour. TVXQ already released the group’s 26th single in Japan and is getting ready for third Asian tour concerts. Korea’s ballad king Shin Seung-hoon will also release his second regular album in Japan on April 25th. He’ll also tour four cities in Japan from late April to early May.

[News] DBSK in “Fast and Furious 4”

Posted in News with tags , on March 7, 2009 by kenkyu

Yes. You read that correctly. Dong Bang Shin Ki has a song in the film “Fast and Furious”, fourth in the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise. Daysgoby and I were sitting defenselessly watching an advanced screening of “Fast and Furious” (the film comes out next month) and we heard these sounds….familiar, but out of place sounds. We looked at each other, I gave her an, “are you effing hearing this?!”, look and she returned it. It was Yoochun’s fobby Engrish that I noticed first and then I recognized the beat.

Yes, folks, while Paul Walker’s sexy behind was chasing down a bad guy, the sounds of a remix of DBSK’s song “Rising Sun” was permeating the atmosphere. Director Justin Lin made the film decidedly Korean. Han, from, “Tokyo Drift” was in the film, there was a random Korean character that Vin Diesel held out of a window, there was not one Korean dry cleaner and DBSK had a song in the film. ‘Nuff Respect.

So, yes, DBSK has had, to date, the best musical debut of any other artist because their song was in a big money Hollywood film. Sure, no one knew it was a boy band, nor did anyone watching the movie actually care about anything besides the intense chase scene. But I knew and Daysgoby knew, DBSK had arrived (and would soon be ushered when the film leaves theaters).

If you’re wondering about the film, however, let’s just say it was about as good as “Rising Sun”. (For the record, the song is entertaining but overall rather bad.)

Posted in News, Translations with tags on March 7, 2009 by kenkyu

Finally! Finally!

TVXQ will appear on 「ザテレビジョンHOMME」 Magazine!

You can’t see much from this *cough*tiny*cough* picture, but it’s a really dreamy and cool picture.
It was really cold during the photo shoot but five of them kept telling themselves “It’s cold…No, no…It’s not!” and were then overheard laughing.
They finished the photo shoot really well.
Please look forward to all kinds of poses from TVXQ which were done while they were half-freezing!

[News + Trans] B-PASS 2009 April Issue – Jaejoong’s Love for the Members is Wanting to See Them Everyday

Posted in News, Translations with tags , on March 5, 2009 by kenkyu

JJ: A lot of people eat “Chijimi” in Korea when it rains. (“Chijimi” is a kind of Korean food which resembles pancakes) I miss the taste of chijimi when it rains -laughs-. But I feel more hungry than relaxed when I think of the taste of chijimi.

Q: What does love feel like to you?
JJ: When we’re rehearsing for our concerts. I sincerely feel that the other 4 are really good-looking when I look at them on stage as I watch them from the seats. Then I’d remember that I’m a member of TVXQ too, and I feel really blessed. I’d want to see the other members if I do get a 10-day break. Because we’re together all the time normally. We only get 10 days of rest in the 365 days we have a year; we’re together the rest of the time. I would want to see them during those 10 days as well because we live together. This wouldn’t change even if I get married. My love for the members is such that I’d still want to see them, even if we meet every day.

Q: The difference between “love” and “relationship”?
JJ: “Love” is a combination of the most precious feelings; “relationship” makes one’s heart feel touched, but doesn’t necessarily result in an ending. Its more of a superficial thing.

YH: The “10 Year Plan” was written when I was in Middle School, and I never re-wrote it. Its a little embarrassing/awkward to read it now. -laughs- Even so, I’ve completed about 70% of what I wrote. I realized my dream of becoming an artiste, and I also managed to donate a scholarship to my High School last year. I’ll also work hard to achieve all the goals that I’ve written down in my list, which even the members haven’t seen.
I admire my father even if I look at him for just 2 seconds. As a man, I think he’s the “man of all men” and as a woman, I’d think that he would be “the best kind of man”. He’s a father that I’m very proud of.

Q: What are you like when you’re drunk?
CM: I’d become very talkative and happy. Alcohol is a happy thing.

Q: You play the guitar, how’s it been recently?
CM: I’ve been skiving recently -laughs-. I’ve been obsessed over Korean online games with the other members lately. The game is really popular. I became addicted once I started playing it, and I became oblivious to all other things.

[News + Trans] B-PASS 2009 April Issue “Holy Days” – Junsu Interview

Posted in News, Translations with tags , , on March 4, 2009 by kenkyu

Q: When do you find yourself most relaxed?
JS: Taking a good bath after the schedule for the day is completed is the best way to relax. To me, that’s the best moment.

Q: Is it because you like things such as shower cream?
JS: I won’t put in shower creams, being able to take a hot bath in the warmth of the bathroom is the best for of enjoyment. But I won’t spend too long a time in there, I’d come out as soon as I get warm.

Q: Other than that, are there any other times which make you feel relaxed?
JS: When I’m sleeping, that’s the most blissful moments. And when I think about the things that I want to do.

Q: What do you want to do now?
JS: I want to play games now.

Q: Korean online games?
JS: Exactly. I feel very relaxed when gaming as well.

Q: With the members?
JS: Although the games are interesting, its even more exciting when we play together. We do play together if we have the time. Time passes really fast when we do that.

Q: What is the colour that makes you feel relaxed? The colour that calms you down?
JS: I used to like blue, then red. Now its purple. I ended up liking the colour that’s a mixture of red and blue. -laughs-

Q: What do you think of when you see the colour purple?
JS: After the sun sets, a layer of orange sets over the sky, after which it changes to purple. That’s the kind of sky that appears in my mind now. I like the sky that appears at sunset. My mood uplifts when I see that kind of sky and I’d feel relaxed.
Q: What do you do when you get time off?
JS: If I get around 5 days off, I would like to take a good rest in a suburban Korean village. If it’s a longer vacation, I’d like to go for a trip overseas.

Q: What kind of trip?
JS: If I were to go on my own, it’d be quite nice to go to some famous landmarks or tourist spots for sightseeing. I don’t really like cold places. I wouldn’t spend a large sum of money wilfullyto go to a cold country just for skiing. -laughs-
TVXQ once went to an island called Bora Bora, Its really beautiful there and I like the place a lot. I’d like to go there again if I get the chance. Truthfully speaking, that’s the place I want to go most.
Q: Compared to the time when you first debuted, did your expectations of your music change?
JS: I used to think that I must put in more effort. I wouldn’t dislike music, and its not that I’m not working hard now. Isn’t the point to accumulate experience in all areas? So, I feel more freedom now. I feel happy no matter on stage or in the recording studio. Because this not only makes me relaxed, it also allows me to do the things I love. So I feel very enriched now.
Q: When did you start feeling like this?
JS: I started really feeling this at the end of last year’s arena tour. Because we were approaching the 6th anniversary in Korea and 4th in Japan; and the things that TVXQ wanted to do were being realized one by one. So I wanted to hear music that represented TVXQ’s growth.

Q: Are you doing composing now?
JS: I’ve always been. Composing helps me to relieve stress. I’ve always been composing as it makes me forget everything else and its also a hobby of mine. I really like it because I can create a world that solely belongs to me in my compositions.
Q: When do you feel inspired?
JS: Suddenly! Sometimes inspiration just comes all of a sudden, as does the melody. I’d sing it out loud, and if it sounds good, I’d record it down. If I didn’t have any equipment with me I’d record it in my phone.

Q: Its quite a good idea to record it using your phone.
JS: Its really convenient because I carry my mobile with me everywhere, and it has recording functions. Q: If something like “Love” etc were mentioned, what would you think of? JS: Because I’m really young, I haven’t really had much experience of romatic relationships. -laughs- What I think of when “love” is mentioned would be things like pain and missing someone. Because I think that if it was a true love where pain was felt, it would be replaced by missing that person even after you broke up.

Q: Which action of your loved one would make you think she’s cute?
JS: It doesnt matter what she does if she did it for me solely. What do you think?

Q: I agree. If she does it before you knew it, would you feel happy?
JS: Yes. It would feel great when I found out.

Q: What do you most want to do for your beloved now?
JS: Let her see me working even harder. That’s what I want to do.
Work hard and stand on the stage of Tokyo Dome, that’s the goal for this year. I didn’t even dare to think about performing in Tokyo Dome when we first came to Japan. It’d be really great if this dream could actually be realized.

[News + Trans] B-PASS 2009 Apr Issue “Holy Days”- Yoohun Interview

Posted in News, Translations with tags , , on March 2, 2009 by kenkyu

2008, album sales and concert were both huge successes ^^ All the singles they produced reached No.1 on the charts, a debut on the Kohaku Uta Gassen, this was a great year of leaping forward for Tohoshinki. Gracing the magazine cover for the 3rd time, the 5 of them, who have many fans in not only Japan and Korea but also the rest of Asia, suggested “Relaxing Timing” as the theme of this photoshoot. They also suggested “relax”, “love”, “music” and “aim” as the topics of conversation/interviews.

TVXQ’s “Holy Days” Interview- Micky Yoochun

Q: How are you feeling recently?
YC: Very busy~~ But I’m very happy everyday as well.

Q: Do you mean that you can find happiness in some of the things you’re busy with?
YC: Yes~ so its better to be a little busier. But, when I think of the choreography for the concert this time, its a little… -smiles- the arena tour this time is really really worth looking forward to.

Q: What would you want to do if you had some time off?
YC: Up til now, although I’ve said that I want to make some Japanese friends online, I’ve never actually though of that practically. -smiles- But, I really wanted to make some Japanese friends recently. I could go out with my friends in Japan as well, if I had friends in Japan. I want to have some similarities between my lives in Japan and Korea.

Q: When we met previously, you said things like wanting to ride a bicycle all the way to Shibuya. Now that you’re such a famous celebrity, its probably really hard to do something like that right?
YC: I never rode a bike there, but I do still go to Shibuya occasionally.

Q: Its okay? What if people find you there?
YC: Its alright. I’d just do what people normally do, shake their hands and wish them a pleasant time~~ something like that.

Q: Is that so? Do you go to Shibuya for shopping?
YC: No, I go there when I feel like eating “Emyunju”. (T/N: anyone can tell me what’s that?? :/)

Q: Emyunju? That kind of fish?
YC: Yes, I usually have it in hotels, the kind of hotels that aren’t too expensive.

Q: Like a commoner ah~~
YC: It makes me feel happy~ Ramen shops as well~ I really like going there. But from now on, I’ll have to take better care of my health as the arena tour’s coming up. So I have to control my cravings for tonkotsu ramen at night now -laughs-

Q: Do you like tonkotsu ramen a lot?
YC: Yes~ its really delicious~ tonkotsu ramen~

Q: Since you’re busy all the time, it feels a little awkward asking you something like that, but… if you had a long holiday, what would you want to do?
YC: keke~its great thinking about it -laughs- I wanted to stay in Korea whenever I had a break in the past… to meet my friends and family… Now I want to go and eat Japanese cuisine and visit Japanese onsens.

Q: You understand Japan really well, but when you’re at work, do you ever think “I have to change this habit”?
YC: The thing I want to change the most is not overstepping the limit when I’m at work… to be more careful when I talk to the staff because I never really took much notice of this before.

Q: The song you composed, “Kiss The Baby Sky”, has shown improvements both musically and expressivness.
YC: Yes, the stress that I experience when composing is disappearing gradually, although I’m losing my concentration when composing, I can still come up with a melody. I need to change that as well~~

Q: Did you feel more confident of yourself when you completed KTBS?
YC: I really felt a lot more confident, but a little embarrassed as well. -laughs- I feel really awkward/embarrassed when we were filming the music video for my song. My expressions were really stiff when I had to lip-sync for the video.

Q: KTBS is a conversation between a pair of lovers who had to part because of their dreams. Did you have such an experience as well?
YC: A lot of people have asked me this, but it never happened to me.

Q: Please talk a little about it then.
YC: The lyrics talk about a man who decide to break up with his lover so that she can pursue her dream… but it was always the opposite for me. Girls who I dated always had to break up with me so that I could pursue my dream… it was like that.

Q: I see.
YC: So I didn’t want to write a ballad, or a melancholic song, a pop style, something happy and for the future. A song like that.

Q: “Finally you laughed in the future” and “Tomorrow is still your own”, positive lyrics like this, can always be connected.
YC: I can really feel for lyrics such as “The two of us are still smiling, in the photos we left behind”. I really felt quite lonely when the memories of breaking up came rushing back as I was looking through photographs. I just based my song on those memories, though the songwriting process was quite difficult.

Q: But what images do you think of when the word “love” is brought up?
YC: There are many, but I particularly remember last Christmas. I went drinking with 2 of my friends in Korea on Christmas Eve, so I woke up late the next day. When I saw my mother, brother and his girlfriend making salad, I felt love. Love can exist in the smallest ways possible and increase in the same way.. finally you get married as well. Its the same for family too.

Q: So your living room was full of love at that time~~
YC: Yes~ I was rather envious~-laughs-my brother and his girlfriend were saying something like “How do you make that?” but they were smiling. So I felt really great as ann elder brother.

Q: What gives you a good impression of a girl?
YC: I have excellent impressions of girls who are good at housework~ For example, when she’s doing the dishes, or paring fruits, or when she cooks for her boyfriend and has the “I wonder how he thinks of the taste?” expression on her face… …

Q: Natural behaviour like that has a lot of charm~~ So what do you think is the difference between “like” and “love”?
YC: “Like” is a coincidence, working hard after that coincidence and the feeling that comes after it has matured is “love”. “Like” can happen to anyone, but it’d be great if “love” could come after hard work. Like this~

Q: Lastly, what is your personal wish/goal for this year?
YC: I want to feel happiness/bliss! -laughs-Not only myself, it also extends to the people around me, it’d be great if everyone could be happy.

[News] Idols on the Big Screen

Posted in News with tags , , on February 27, 2009 by kenkyu

After news of Big Bang’s Seungri being casted in the upcoming movie ‘71′ was released, public interest on the subject of idol group members taking on the big screen has once again been piqued. The first case of idol involvement in a movie was in 1998, when 6-member group Sechskies appeared in the movie ‘Seventeen’. Because it was based on the youngsters at that time and also because it was the first time idols have starred in a movie, it became quite a controversial project.

Subsequently in 2004, Sechskies member Eun Jiwon appeared in the movie ‘High School Girl Gets Married’, together with Im Eun Kyung.

In 2000, H.O.T also took on the big screen with a 28-minute-long 3D movie ‘Age Of Peace’. The short film was set in the year 2200, and featured H.O.T members competing for the Galaxy Cup. The movie also starred Dana of CSJH The Grace.

That was followed by ‘Emergency Measures No.19′, produced by gagman Seo Sewon. The movie became a hot topic of discussion as it featured many top idol acts of that time, including Shinhwa, Fin.K.L and NRG among others.

In the summer of 2006, it was DBSK’s turn to step into the limelight when they filmed ‘Vacation’, a story based on the adventures of the 5 members while on vacation.

The whole group of Super Junior also took part in the movie ‘Attack On The Pin-up Boys’ in 2007, which attracted more than 100,000 people to the cinemas. Super Junior member also featured in the 2008 movie ‘Romantic Comic’.

‘Meanwhile, So-hee of the Wonder Girls shared screen time with actresses Lee Mi Sook and Kim Min Hee in the 2008 movie ‘I Like It Hot’, and received some positive reviews for her performance.

In addition, Shinhwa members have also had starring roles in movies too – Lee Minwoo in ‘Wontak’s Angel’, Kim Dongwan in ‘Spin Kick’ and Eric in ‘Diary of June’. Former G.O.D member Yoon Kye Sang featured in the movies ‘Flying Boys’, ‘Six Years In Love’ and ‘Beastie Boys’, and former S.E.S member Eugene has also starred in ‘Unstoppable Marriage’, ‘That Man’s Book Page 198′ and ‘Romantic Island’.
